Tree Tracings

Tree Tracings~by Valerie Ogren for the Greene County Genealogical Society

Meeting notice: The Greene County Genealogical Society will meet Saturday, Sept. 3 at 10 am in the basement meeting room of the Jefferson public library. Cindy Wiggins will tell about her “Sullivan Treasures”.  Guests are always welcome.  The meeting room is handicapped accessible.

We had good attendance again last month, and Sharlene had an excellent program. However, it was not about DNA (which I had assumed). She shared lots of stories and pictures of her extensive research on ancestors who came from England to Massachusetts in the 1600s.  At one time they owned Nantucket Island.

Is my ancestor eligible for inclusion on the Wall of Honor? The American Immigrant Wall of Honor is open to all entries. Included are names representing all ethnicities, all years of arrival, all points of entry, and all modes of travel. Names represent families and individuals, both living and deceased. Some names have been inscribed to commemorate the centennial of an ancestor’s arrival.  New Americans inscribe their names to celebrate their naturalization. The common element that ties these names together is the celebration of American Immigration.  For more information and photos, go to http://libertyellisfoundation.org/about-the-wall-of-honor

Reference library: The reference library is open again regular hours in the basement of the Jefferson public library:  Saturday 9 am – noon and Wednesday from 1 to 4 pm.

Here are a few surnames of family histories which have been donated to our shelves: Cantrell, Camrite/Stevens, Carter, Clopton, Carter, Carver/Van Allen, Cockrell, Cole, Cox, Coombs, Coughenower, Crandall/Wilson, Crawford, Curtis, Davis/Fulks, Dagit, Davis, Dawson, Deluhery, DeWitt – all with Greene County connections.  Stop in sometime.  We may have just what you are looking for.  If you are just beginning your research, we also have ancestor charts and family group sheets to help you get started.
